Ideas for interviews:
Courtney Barnett – Real estate. Courtney Barnett has a song called ‘Depreston’ which is a nod to the escalating house prices in Melbourne. I originally heard the song and thought it was interesting, and I have always wanted to do something on young people in Melbourne trying to get into the real estate market. However I read an article in the Age about the song and some of Barnett’s comments on it. It was then that I thought there might be a story in it. I need to flesh this one out a bit more and get an angle and someone who is in a good position to comment. I think that maybe this will go down well on 3R as it is music related, with an artist that they love.
Duck shooting. The duck shooting season has just opened in Victoria, again with another ‘controversial’ season. Laurie Levy would be good to interview. He is often in the media speaking out about this. This I can imagine will go down well with the environmental minded audience of 3R.
No waste cafe. There is a cafe in St Kilda that is getting closed down due to counsel pressure. The cafe produced zero waste every single day. However mounting pressure from the counsel pushed them to shut down, after a long battle. The owner and creator was very outspoken about his disgust in this. I think that this will go down well with the environmental minded. However – it could turn into a feature, it would be hard not to make it a plug for the cafes they owner still runs, it is not relevant to the area in which 3R resides. Although this final point isn’t a massive issue, it still might be difficult.
Eurovision. Eurovision is coming up and for the first time Australia is going to be included. I could interview an entertainment writer for The Age about the significance of this, about how Aus should go about picking a performer, a song, do we have a chance, is there a formula? I think that this is a strong idea as it’s different, and music related.
All in the pipe line.
