Week 10: Green Screens

Hi Everyone,

This week i took an in depth look at green screen work and its uses and limitations.

Possibly the best thing about green screen is the immersive power it gives to your world! Instead of going on location to an expensive world…you can shoot it right here! you have have any background/ foreground/ middle ground composition you want. It also is advantageous to shoot with green screen as it gives you control over your environment and excludes factors such as weather which can be very costly to production deadlines and budget.

The Downside of green screen work is that you take any reaction from the world away from the actor because it will be inserted later in post-production. This can lead to bland performances by the actors because what they are seeing is a monstrous amount of green…and no wonderful fantastic world.

I use After Effects personally to do my VFX editing because it gives very effective control over all factors of post production editing such as masking, key, shadowing, multiplying, tracking and 3D.
