First week back at uni, and this studio seems interesting and fun, working with ACMI on their new exhibit. It feels very intimidating though. Such a major project with lots of things at stake, and I really don’t feel like I’ve had the opportunity to gain enough experience to produce something with such high stakes – I’d hate to see how some of the first years’ feel.
In Tuesday’s class, we discussed the classes, the assignments, and some of the things that we’re supposed to learn along the way. We discussed the three-act structure and screenwriting. Cat has a fascinating resume, working with ACMI, as well as with other universities – especially looking at how technical expertise can be used to create engaging creative projects – something I would like to learn more about.
On Thursday, Field Carr, from ACMI, also spoke to us about the new exhibit, the assignment, and his career. I thought it was interesting to hear from someone currently working in the field.
I have some embryonic ideas in my head for the storyline, and I’m thinking of using live action scenery and 2D animated characters – similar to the style of Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988).
To be honest, I’m struggling with burnout, but I’m hoping that this unit, especially the open-ended nature of the first two assignments, help me out of this rut.
