PROJECT BRIEF #2

Project brief #2 proved to be quite a challenge for me.

I spent a profound amount of time attempting to define “myself” and came to the conclusion that the best way that I could do this was through my experiences and the physical world around me. I believe myself to be quite an extroverted individual with a strong sense of my reserved self and I believe that this is expressed through my project.

The videos that I chose to include express my desire to keep moving forward. I am quite a restless individual and feel the need to constantly be on my feet making progress towards my own personal goals.

I found the recorded sound component to be the most difficult aspect of this project. All three captured “sounds” were things that I have experienced upon exploring the world around me. The first tram sequence, the background chatter is actually found a separate sound file but I believed it fit in quite nicely to the peaceful nature of the outside world beyond the tram windows. The final sound bite as the video fades to black was of my friends having an impromptu late night karaoke session to Queen. I like to surround myself with positive influences in my life that raise my morale, so this was a great inclusion I believe. The black screen as this plays allows the viewer to also hone into the music being played.

The still images shown all express different aspects of me – my fondness of pop culture and my love of Seinfeld. The “o be satisfied” image I found to be quite hilarious, as I think no one human can ever be truly satisfied in life. Finally, the quote is taken from American Psycho by my favourite author/personality, Bret Easton Ellis. It’s a great quote with lots of underlying meanings.

Sourcing content is no issue to me. I think the best aspects of my work are the content and what they represent but do know that my awful editing skills fail me. Technicality has never been my strongest point but I am working to better myself at this everyday
