Week 2 – Connection

The noticing activity in yesterday’s lectorial was pretty crazy. It’s absolutely ridiculous how much you can tune in to the environment around you and notice all of the different nuances that the world has to offer.

After putting some more serious thought into the presence of advertisements in our public spaces, i’ve really sharpened my mind into the debate of whether any corporation ‘should’ have the right to sell products to us in a public area. I get that council’s need to generate revenue somehow, but are they capitalising off of our rights to live an advertisement free life?

In saying all of this – I seriously must commend advertising companies for creating works of art, as opposed to really awful eyesores that we can’t ignore? It’s nice to look at an advertisement which comes across more as a piece of art than a shoddy attempt at grabbing the public’s money. Good for them.

This was one of those flashing advertisements at Melbourne Central station that are forced upon commuters as they are about to board trains. I can’t recall what the advertisement was for but I like the simple, almost art exhibition style of it. It’s appealing and effective, yet such a great way to capitalise off of bored commuters.
