Week 1 – Back in black
What exactly are my objectives for this semester? I guess by choosing this particular studio, I want to get in tune with my creative spirit. My passion rests in film production and writing and as a thinker; I have always considered myself to be very linear, following particular rules, patterns and formulas. I love analysis, and am a big fan of looking at tropes, specifically those present in Hollywood B-movies and the like. This course, from my initial impressions, deals with some very abstract topics, like contemporary art. The ARIs I have experienced thus far (Bus Projects, Gertrude Contemporary) all address known issues in new and exciting ways, bringing forth ideas I would never have paused to considered.
I hope to broaden my personal horizons as well as my technical ability. Despite having studied documentary last semester, I have yet to film and edit a documentary at university. This way, I hope I’ll be able to apply my theory as well as any valuable technical, documentary appropriate skills in Capturing Creativity to make something to the best of my ability.
This studio is broad and oriented more towards the abstract and unknown which sounds perfect for freeing up my mind to make something completely different and perhaps more artistically sound. I’d also like to focus on amplifying my ability in production and collaboration. Shooting, editing and directing solo is fine at times, but it is inefficient and dry, especially if it is a lengthy project. This studio will help with my skills in coordinating with other talented media students.
