The Long Shot: A Fairly Failed Attempt

The sixth workshop involved a failed attempt at creating a long shot that involved a misconception:

There are many, many well executed long shots, like Quentin Tarantino’s long tracking shot in Kill Bill, though ours did not quite complete the criteria. The most difficult part about this process was actually creating a misconception that could be interpreted by the audience, rather than filming the long shot itself.

I believe that the problem my group and I faced was that we were stuck on many variations of one main idea. That one idea had closed off opportunities for us think of other possible misconceptions. We were distracted by the novelty of a member in our group and her adorable little sister wearing the same outfit to university. Thus began the cycle of ideas surrounding this factor and nothing else, which made us lack in creativity surrounding the misconception.

I think that our failed attempt at this helped us to understand how we could have made this better and more effective. We needed to be less distracted by our pre-existing ideas and start again from scratch with an open mind. To leave other ideas behind and start over again is very important skill to have when creating content, as the majority of the time your first ideas will not be your best. This was certainly a learning curve in the creativity department, though proved very difficult to overcome at the time, and is a lot easier said than done.
