Explanation of Self-Portrait Choices

The main four symbols that were represented in my pieces were painting, reading, tea and a sense of home. All of these components has influenced my life and becoming of my self in one way or another, and work in an organised mess.

Two photographs of my paintings, another photograph of my art supplies & a video of mixing paint:

  • Art is a huge component of my life, having studied it all of high school and continuing to paint after graduating
  • My paintings reflect my feelings and help to soothe and relax me, another creative outlet for me other than film

Audio of flipping through pages in a book & photograph of my favourite books:

  • Reading in particular has influenced my thoughts, opinions and how I see the world

Audio of kettle boiling & video of making tea:

  • I drink tea more than I drink plain water, and I own way too much of it

Photograph of my kitchen window, audio of rifling through my clothing rack & video of a candle:

  • This photograph of my kitchen in my Melbourne home always reminds me of my hometown (Byron Bay), so it symbolises both of my homes
  • The audio of rifling through my clothing rack refers to the disgusting amount of clothes I have and how having all my clothes on display always makes me feel at home
  • The video of the sweat pea and vanilla candle being lit always reminds me of my hometown, as it smells like home to me and it was made there – also, it is my favourite scent
