For assignment 2, we decided to be more creative with the editing. Pavina searched some tutorials online and we found a tutorial by Justin Odisho on Youtube to create an effect of a video playing inside the frame of a text.
The tutorial showed us how to do this in a very detailed step-by-step instructions. First of all, we need to insert a clip into the video tract on the project timeline. Next, we need to create a title/text and place this on top of the previous clip layer. We can design and modify the text as how we wanted them to appear, but in my case, I started off with “Aku Cinta Kamu” which means “I Love You “in Indonesian. I made the text as big as I can and choose fonts that are fatter so I can have more video showing inside of it, the bold options will be a good idea.
Next, I had to search up the “Track Matte Key” effect and apply them on our clip.
And in the effect control windows, under the “track matte” bar, we’ll see a few options under that “matte” section. Depending on how many layers we had, there will be a few options which are the layers above our original clip. Meaning that if our clip is in Video (V)2, then you’ll see options of Video 3 – Video (number). Now, choose the layer where our “Text” is at, in my case directly above my clip (which is at V2), meaning I had to choose V3.
When we have selected this option, the magic is done! Now we have video in a text. It was a pretty simple process.
There is actually another way of doing it, which is shown also by Odisho in another video.
Basically, the steps were similar up to putting the text layer on top of the clip. But instead of looking for the “track matte” effect, we are to go to the graphics panel on top, and create a rectangle.
We can choose whatever color we want in the essential graphics panel on the right, but in my case I use black.
Next, I enlarged the rectangle until it covers the whole clip, and then make sure that this layer (Shape 01 in my case) is placed below the text.
Now the last step was to click on the text layer on the work space, and then go to the effect controls > opacity > multiply. And there we have it!
I really like this effect and how it finally looked on the video, we also used Asian characters as the text which looked really cute but was a bit tricky to apply as there were limitations to the fonts and they were all quite thin. What i did was add stroke to make it thicker.
Lastly, both tutorials by Odisho were great, it was easy to follow and understand. Below are the tutorials, I hope you guys have fun learning!
