This time, I decided to learn the “smooth zoom blur” effect that I often see on videos but obviously never knew how to do. The tutorial I found was again by Justin Odisho, who I’ve been referring to quite a lot. I found his tutorials really easy to follow as it is clear and explained well.
Anyhow, let’s get to learning.
First of all, we need to separate clips next to each other. Then we need to create two adjustment layers. Go to Window > New > Adjustment Layer, and put two layers on top of the two clips mentioned just like below.
Then, we need to go to the “effect” windows and look up Replicate, and apply it to our the adjusment layer directly on top of the two clips. (There are three clips here but don’t bother the third clip :)).
Then, we go to the “effect controls” and change the count from 2 to 3. so now we have a collage of 9 frames.
Another effect to look up is “mirror” and we need to apply it four times to the same adjustment layer and in the effect control, we need to adjust the position of each “mirror” effect. What i did was just copy exactly the numbers of the “reflection center” and “reflection angle” that was in the video. This is to make sure the edges of the frames look smooth.
Next, we need to look up for another effect, this time it’s called “transform” and we need to apply them to the second adjustment layer (the one on top of the first one). Then we need to start right between the first and second clip, press the left key on our keyboard about 6 times (this will make the , go to the effect controls, find “scale” and then type 100, then go back to exactly between the two clips and then type 300 in the scale. To create a motion blur, we need to uncheck the “use composition’s shutter angle” box. Lastly, we need to expand the “scale” window and then make a mountain shaped peak to create an additional kick.
And there you have it! We can just copy and paste the layer and put them on top of other videos for the same effect.
Below is my attempt. I hope this post is helpful.
