Task pitch

The topic of task three is from the end of task two.
1. How to use light to draw audience attention?

From task two, I picked some pictures at the finder station. The more thing I noticed that is light. So in task three, I would like to explore more about the light impact of our life. How to use light draw audience attention? So the first experiment I took some pictures at night from state library to Flinders station. There is the photography I took.
At night, we can notice some things we often see but ignore. Like the street lamp, traffic lights and some high building lights. These places scenery in day and night is very different. Light has a great effect at night, not what we imaged at daytime. The light could illuminate the surrounding objects and make a new shape. for example, too many street lamps could create a light line. From this experiment, I realize that I should develop a kind of sensibility to pay attention to things around. If I didn’t do this task, I can’t see this beautiful light scenery. But I was wonder if I make a video how to trigger their attention like the photography, so I make a video in the second week. I took some pieces screenshot. This video I make it speed up to directly show the light change in a period of time. Also, u can see I did it contrast between daytime and night to obviously see how the light changed and the light affects the surrounding objects. From this experiment, I realized that the change of light is inseparable from the movement of objects. But I noticed one thing that is I shoot all full view, maybe the audience would feel mess in the frame, it is so hard if they want to focus on particular one thing. so I keep going to make one more video in the third week, which is shooting single luminous object. I have noticed the glass texture and light pattern go through this experiment. However, there is no movement, can’t give the audience a sense of beauty. For the final project, I would like to make a video, which is a form of time- lapse video. I will explore the relationship between the light and movement. to catch the picture that the eye can not capture.

Refine

Each experiment is obtained from the last test, the task of the three significant significance, although it may not need to run around, but it needs to constantly think about reflection, to find each test may exist problems and how to solve The The first test I personally like very much. If I have not done this experiment, I may never have seen such a beautiful scenery in the lens. At the same time I also found that I have a significant improvement in camera technology, I will use a different perspective to build a good framework.
In the second experiment, I really like the city in the night sky, light exposure to the building, different colors have different meanings, each person also has a different visual experience.
In the third experiment, I found the details of the changes in small objects, the meaning of light, although not the second test, but also let me start to focus on a single object, because the object is small, the eye is difficult to capture subtle things, through The lens can carefully observe the changes in light.
In short, from these three tests I noticed the details of the usual did not notice, but also learn how to use the lens to capture things often overlooked. Of course, now I see the surrounding things will be carefully observed and found that the light produced in different angles the effect.

Task three – experiment three

In the second experiment, I made a video to notice the changing of light in different time. For the next step, I changed a way of observation, only concerned about a single light-emitting object. In contrast to the experiment, I can not observe the movement of the object and the subtle beauty but found the details of the fine, such as the texture of the glass. It makes me a bit disappointed because I can not get inspired from it. So I want to go back to video production to find more light changes. Here is the recipe of the experiment:

Ingredients:
1.A camera and tripod

Method:
Noticing the slight things.

From this experiment, I noticed the details like glass texture and pattern. However, there is no movement, can’t give the audience a sense of beauty.https://vimeo.com/233976916

Task three – Experiment two

Ingredients: 1. camera
2. computer editing
3. make a survey

Methods:
1.use the camera to film pieces in two locations
2.put the videos together, to look at the changes between daytime and night
3.upload it to the vimeo.
4.make a questionnaire and send it to three people and waiting for their response.

The question:
1.What do you notice in this video?
2.How do you notice the light in daily life? How to record it?
3.How do you think of the lighting influence on our lives?

They all noticed the light in the video and stressed the light importance at night.
Light is basically everywhere. Whenever you noticed something visually you are actually noticing light at the same time, because without light you will not be able to notice anything but darkness. I will notice and record light when I see something looks different with its natural form and that difference is caused by light. Light is the thing that brights our life. We are able to see things and notice things because there is light. In my opinion that is the biggest influence light is bringing to our life because without light we won’t even have a live.

This video I make it speed up to directly show the light change in a period of time. Also, u can see I did it contrast between daytime and night to obviously see how the light changed and the light affects the surrounding objects. From this experiment, I realized that the change of light is inseparable from the movement of objects.

Task three- experiment one

Recipe:

At the end of task two, I have two questions that I would like to explore in the next task. One of is that how to use lighting to draw audiences attention.  For the next task, I choose the light to be my major topic to notice the effects in our life.

Ingredients:

A camera

methods:

step1:  walking from the state library to Flinders station at night(after 9 o’clock)

step2: photographed the light that I often see but ignore.

step3: Make a questionnaire  to look at the reaction when people see the photo

Reflection:

After the first experiment, I’ve noticed too many sense that I ignored in the daily life.  At first, I just thought the light is simple, which means luminous objects at night, but I was wrong when I capture these photos by camera.  The camera could capture these moments better than human eyes, set the camera record the colorful world. In addition, the light is not the literal meaning to give a place bright. Nature presents us with a yellow roll of light and shadow. The sun’s rays, the lightning in the air, the rainbow after the rain. Artificial lighting is learning from nature to imitate.

I’ve made an investigation about the experiment.

Q1: What do you notice in these photos?

Q2: What do you think it?

Q3: Did you notice the light before?

I sent this questionaire to three people and got their responses. They all noticed the same things-lighting in these photos, but they all didn’t notice it before. They think the pictures are beautiful even they do not believe it took in Melbourne.  One guy asked me where I took the picture which is a glass under the chair. It is just picked in front of the Commonwealth bank.  He never sees that before.

After this experiment, I would like to explore how to make a video to draw their attention, to see how the light change, to notice more light effects around us.

Task two- Refining

Through this mission, I think I can continue to be used in subsequent learning in school to read way of thinking. In everyday life just seen it is likely to be forgotten, so do pay attention, marking, record. In addition, after the discovery of this information element, I can expand their thinking to find contact where possible, so as to draw a map in my mind, absolutely not just a media information element, but a series of information combined into.

Questions:
-This task I just take photographs, but if I do a video or audio, how could I collect the elements to trigger audience attention or notice more details?

-How to use the lighting and sound to trigger audience attention through video

Task two-Reflecting

Before I went to the station, I was thinking that there would be noise from the train and the sound of the staircase and downstairs, and the sound of the ticket machine. But when I arrived, I found more information, these information are often around us, often we are ignored. Such as posters on the wall, graffiti, exhibits, advertising information in the corner, cafe posters. When I approached the train station, I heard the drop of the ticket machine, and I found that the noise here is not as serious as I thought, but the footsteps are really clear.

From looking over Jemma’s media I found that she picked too many special elements like vegetables and wig hair, however, I just picked the more of environments. But overall, I don’t think we have any major differences in our noticed and recorded. We picked some different because the environment determines footage.

This mission reminds me of the Week 1 of reading. It is very useful to distinguish between ordinary-noticing or perceiving. We often notice things that we are interested in or we can think of things in our minds. Thus, this way of thinking would be influenced to our exploration of the world, we may ignore some special details around us, and these details some time in the future will have a huge role. (When I take the picture back home, I will reopen the photo and try to recall every detail because the memory will always be biased towards interest). I am thankful for this task because I will continue to enforce this kind of thinking in my further study.

Task two-Noticing

When we play all of our media back, Jemma found that the light difference between the ground and underground, the pattern on the wall, pink color and the contrast of the street. Lots of graffiti. Light creates direction. Also, she has a strong observation about the geometric shapes. In her piece of pictures, I found the varieties of watching. A painting that the woman wears red clothes with yellow hair, this is a color contrast. In the shop, there are different color wig hair. Besides, it is about the market food and structures.

By contrast, we found that we photographed in the photos have some similarity. We both notice the light in the different places and the contrast of the new and old. The more interesting thing is we picked in different locations but we all get one point- advertising. The Victory market is a place of consumption, but the function of the station is transportation. There is a film festival post on the station wall. From another point of view, this is also a means of consumption. Honestly, I rarely notice these rich elements in normal life. Although in different locations, people can still find similar information elements.

Task two-Prompt post

For this week task, we choose two different places to pick up pictures. Each of us will pick up ten pictures every five steps we take in that location. Jemma will take it in Victory market; I will take it in the entrance of Flinders station.

In the last two weeks, we went to the Patrick Pound exhibition to visit photography. The recorder who is good at classification to all types of photos. He collects his family lives photos, his wife, and the growth of daughters at different ages. Also, there are great photographs about the world history, such as the World War II. The inventor had created a variety of fighter planes in that period. In the exhibition blackboard, I’ve noticed that the author has the own understanding of photography. To be honest, his minds influenced me. “Collecting found photos is like taking cuttings from the world.” People take pictures to record one day or one thing but standing on another perspective thinking, each photo could record the different timeline of the world. So the enormous photos could represent the world to some extent. The exhibition had a lot of every day random objects so we felt by taking 5 steps in our locations we would be able to capture a similar sense of reality. We try to use this way to view the world in our eyes.

Before going to the Degraves street entrance to Flinders street station, I received the entrance location photos from Jemma and I found that place following the map. Actually, the entrance is located in a narrow lane. But I am surprised that the various elements of the alley, there are colorful cake shop, pizza shop wrapped in graffiti wall, the walls of the Buddha, the old Melbourne posters, and people often see the peace pigeon. In this place, I can feel a strong cultural atmosphere. Because there are many shops on both sides of the road, so I hear the noise and people talk. In the underground, I found that everything is quieter, people are busy learning for the work and soon rushed to the ticket gate. There is a street artist is playing a soothing song, which passers-by eager to make a sharp contrast. In the underground passage, there are many exhibitions on the wall that makes me feel very creative. For example, I see a necklace made of plastic. I got these pictures about 5 pm because I expect to see the lighting change or lighting meaning in the different places. I took 2 pictures of the barber shop and jewelry shop. The barber shop light looks so pale, but the opposite side of the jewelry shop looks so warm, it is like the feeling at home. In addition, I noticed the elements of information throughout the corner, the walls of small cards and a variety of advertising, new product promotion pictures, film festival posters. I think it’s challenging to catch people’s fast-moving facial expressions, limited space, and lack of light to make it difficult to record people’s facial expressions

Task one – Reflecting

What made you stop to record the moments of noticing you did?
I picked up some natural views and artists in the street. Sometimes, when I see there is a good moment, I can not grab this moment in time. For example, I see a beautiful bird that has the color feather, but when I am able to get the moment, the bird flies away. Once I lose this chance, it never comes back.
How did the way you collect relate to your initial research prompt?

In every studying process, noticing is always the first step. When I doing this research, I have to focus on one thing and seek more information to make it better. First, I have to find one topic to pick up picture and try to make sure the images and videos have connection. And then marking and recording.
What did you discover/learn about making media through noticing?
Noticing should be develop to an ability. If I have chance to participate in a group to making media, I have to give a deep insight more than others. Noticing more details to think about what the connection between these sectors. As a media participant, we are supposed to find the normal people that not noticed. Also, if I have some good idea, I have to record what I thought at first, because I am afraid of lose the idea in my mind. Exactly, having a good memory is necessary and useful for our job.
What question(s) arise for you out of this making?

I always notice my interests things and ignore the normal things around us. The normal things also can be interest by using different perspective. Each people has own view to observe this world, so the world would be different in their eyes.
