In regard to the focus of this project—to emphasize the solitude of Meursault and the slowness of the passing of time—I am quite satisfied with the final output as both objectives are effectively achieved here. As it was originally planned, the video starts off with a shot slowly focusing on the subject. To express the passing of time, we took different shots of the scene at the same position, blending them together in the post. The moving of the light and its changing temperature also contributed to this. The pace of this video, compared to the previous one, has vastly improved however I feel that we could have taken longer shots to really slow everything down a bit more.

The sound design is one of my favorite aspects of this video. The main soundtrack is composed by John Adams who is a modernist composer, identified with a minimalist style. I found his music by doing research on some postmodern composers. The piece of music we used here has an echoing affect—in an endeavor to express a sense of the passing of the time and the infinite emptiness in the prison. I’ve also added a minor song effect to this main piece of the soundtrack—the sound of the sea waves and seagulls—as a reminder of the murder he had committed. The seaside is also portrayed in this last paragraph written by Camus. The end credit music we used was Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. I’ve done some research on it and found that this song is possibly inspired by Camus’ work The Stranger. Some of its lyrics are actually related to the story.

The shadows in the second video are more obvious and the gaps are thinner so that the audiences may get a sense of him being in prison. However, I felt that we could have paid more attention to the light for each shot. Especially for the last one, we did not light the character in particular for this shot due to the fact that we wanted it to be less tempered as the window was the only light source in prison. In addition, we have not achieved the effect of using two lights in the background for the last shot again here in a second project.

The last shot was inspired by Young Pope.

We could have used two lights in the background to light it more.
