It just occurs to me that another theme in Arrival touches on the topic we’ve been discussing, that is, understanding the other. In the movie, or the short story, it is about understanding the actual alien species, and the other nations. The movie “ruthlessly” reveals our world in a state of unwilling to communicate. Meanwhile our topic, is about understanding the other objects which are actually equally alien to us compare to the aliens in sci-fi movies. “A convivial making”, Adrian wrote it on the whiteboard, is about giving self-centred way of thinking and go out, embracing the other, understanding the other.
