It was one of the best times of China. I’ve been reading this book about fourteen notable women lived in China during the first fifty years of the 20th century. It was when the government of Republic of China was in power. It’s about the first woman who win the lawsuit regarding women’s rights, the first female architect, the first female university president and other whose lives are seen changed by the times.
I quite enjoyed this book when reading it. The words are fair. They do not criticize or flatter. There are no gossips, only words about things that happened given the social, political context. Being a modern woman is both a challenge for them and a sign for social progress. All of us are looking for a better way of structuring society, looking for progress and change in ideas; and so did they. Maybe what remains of them that values the most is their clumsiness when they first enter the world, seeking love and truth. This clumsiness is the real struggle, the real motivation for the next generations to be the change.
