creative process

This picture was shown during this week’s lectorial. It’s a funny one, but it’s very true. I guess for most individuals in the creative industry, the process won’t be too unfamiliar. It does need time or inspiration for them to think of an idea, a design or a story. Sometimes the process does get really frustrating and I want to “kill” myself.:)

For this week’s project, I was suffering. I behaved just like the photo shown above but I hadn’t wished to. Maybe it’s because I usually hoped to make every work of mine to be perfect so I spent a lot of time thinking about how shall I portrait myself in a creative while clear way. I wanted my work to tell the information immediately as the viewer sees my work; and I wished it to be thorough in themes. This drove me nuts. Hopefully you will feel that I had done my job if you look at the post for it.

When I was in high school, our students had a saying: “Deadline is the best motivation for production.” Deadline means restriction. Without restriction, we usually procrastinate. I guess the problem is in our nature that our brains tell us to avoid hard tasks and fancy easier problems. It is clever because it saves us time; however, if we allow ourselves to such a bad habit, we will not progress. I believe that evolution is vital for all species on earth. Procrastination, as I perceive, is an obstruct in our lives that we need to overcome; so this habit slows our evolution as an individual.

Therefore, stop procrastinating!

(Dr. Brian Morris hoped that our experience won’t be like this throughout the degree and I sincerely hope so, too! )
