The first reading for the first week is about our blogs—why are we doing this; and now I get more understanding of this “reflective portfolio”.
As a media student, my work in the future will eventually be shown in public; so practice publicness is the first step. Miles writes that publicness needs care. He is right. With that care practised throughout three years of my degree, I’m sure by then I will be clear to know what to write about and how to write for the public. Due to the publicness, students can also interact. This communication is not only a way to be inspired and get suggestions from other individuals, but also a way to contribute your ideas, your creativity. Another benefit is that a blog is like a journal that records my days, my ideas and my collections. It is documented online with categories and tags. It will be really useful to look back and maintain a systematic learning habit.
The advantages above were all mentioned in Miles article and I just couldn’t agree more. Blogs can be linked to any type of media—photos, audios or videos; so for me, a media student, it’s heaven. Also after writing several blogs, I feel really comfortable and start liking it. I love this blog idea. It’s like a personal space where I can express myself while showing my identity to the others. Now I realised that I should have tried hard to keep a blog before; it takes effort, but blogging is worthwhile.
