I’m interested in investigating important/ interesting walks. I’m going to do this through a series of small observations and then begin my own construction of a scene where moving from one place to another becomes a central part of the story. Or maybe it doesn’t seem apparently central, however it is central to my own investigations.
So what walks come to mind:
- walking down the aisle
- walking to execution (that’s pretty dark and not something that I’d really be keen on looking at)
- crossing the street
- walking (running) for the train
- walking for a ceremony (graduation etc)
These are deliberate acts and are often given prevalence to signify their weight to the person completing the task. (Less so with crossing the street.)
My friend is a videographer – he covers Weddings, I intend to talk to him about how he covers that walk – albeit in an overstated way. It is interesting and useful nonetheless. I will *hopefully* record our conversation and then reflect on it.
My other task will be to set up a camera and just film people walking across a crossing. And then look back at their manner, speed, style – such a great deal is communicated in a walk that we do not consciously project.
How can this then be translated to film?
How do I communicate this to actors?
