WALK BANK: Seonaid

To stop myself from feeling like I have achieved nothing, to try to continue to learn and to make progress when things don’t work out I filmed Seonaid walking down the stairs.
I’m not sure if it was useful, to the end project, but it did give me an opportunity to practice framing which is always useful.
With these WALK BANKS my aim has been to practice filming. To get comfortable with the camera. And to test angles and possibilities. Their results have not always been clear, and sometimes I think that it might not be worthwhile but I can still analyze the walks and the movement.

Some people do not carry much in their walks.
Seonaid is photogenic, and an “actor”. I don’t think that putting Seonaid in front of a camera will result in completely natural behaviour. I don’t think putting anyone in front of a camera will result in natural behaviour. Seonaid’s ‘performance’ here does appear quite natural though.

We were both extremely tired and unmotivated at that point in time. This is clearly reflected in her movement. Her long body slinks down the stairs slowly, with a degree of care that comes from being so tall. At the same time her movement appears calculated, as one would expect (can we ever not be calculated in front of the camera?). I don’t think so.
The art is in communicating gestures in a way that appears effortless but still captivate us, perhaps for the subtlety, perhaps because they grab our full attention.

The walk bank clip can be found in my Google Drive.
