So today I begin filming my exploration – I want to work with degrees of control; with interiors and exterior locations, with actors and non-actors to best evaluate how that influences the type of walk I can capture. I also want to learn about capturing walks, I want to learn how to use tracks and to make a walk look interesting.
Today, I film non-actors in exterior and interior locations. Most of these people have a media background (these people might infact be the people in the middle of the scale – between true actors and non-actors, so maybe I should try it again with people who are completely camera unaware…). Below is what I have communicated to them regarding the shoot. I have phrased it as being about learning to use tracks, and needing bodies in scenes. Not about walks, and not about them. I don’t want them to become overly conscientious of the process. I don’t want them to know its about them because that will elicit an entirely different performance. A totally over-dramatized, over-thought action.
we have to do two weird things – the first one is to film some wides on Bowen St and we need someone to walk across the entire frame (i don’t know why but Robin said he wants me to do this…) and then we’ll do the stuff with the tracks after 5. We’re going to setup in the back corridor of building 13 (just behind building 9) can i just give you a buzz when we’re set? we’re filming a couple of people so as to get some practice at different speeds. literally all i need is just to have someone in the shots (someone not in my class =p)
