What does this all mean? A summary of my audio, video and photos

All of the different media I have uploaded is a little reflection of who I am today. The amount of content that I have shown can never fully depict the kind of person that I am. Nevertheless, they show a good general idea of who I am, what I am capable of and what I enjoy. I like to have fun, and these few things is what I seek for after a good day of being serious and a responsible adult.

What I achieved in this series of blogs:

  • My physical identity
  • My lifestyle around fitness
  • My love for food
  • Things that make me smile

Audio about Me

Just a few sounds that describe me:

The first audio clip is a conversation between myself and a friend. Both our parents were refugees from the Vietnam war. They came to Australia and gave birth to us! Communicating in vietnamese with our parent is really important. Despite our lack of proficiency in the language, we can still manage to make basic funny conversations.

The second audio clip is a cold start of my car. I have just started appreciating cars, and hope to build my own in the future. Nothing beats the sound of a well tuned roar of a V8.

The third audio clip is a snippet of me cooking. My parents work hard to make money and feed my brother and I, but it often comes with a cost. My parents are often working late hours and I often find myself in the house alone. I had to learn how to cook, because I am always hungry after school, which is when my parents are at work.

Videos of who I am

I Love Rnb:

This is Brian Mcknight’s concert at the Palace Theatre. He is performing one of my all time favourite songs “6, 8, 12”. I am really moved by his music and lyrics. He not only sings well but can play multiple instruments as well. This is a rare feat in modern day pop music.

Getting Groovy:

Life is too short to be serious all the time. I try to have as much fun within the day as much as possible as long as the work gets done. Goofing around and having a good laugh with friends gets you through the day better, especially if you are in a bad mood for whatever reason.

Getting stronger:

I am still new to the sport of weightlifting, but I am slowly improving by the week. Training allows me to relax and focus on getting stronger.

Photographs of who I am

Tune into these photos

Dog_JeremyNguyen_09032017

My friend’s dog: I love all animals, with the exception of pigeons and magpies. I used to own a cat but she became too independent and ran away.

Shoes_JeremyNguyen_09032017

My comfy shoes: I am a big fan of the athleisure fashion movement. I train for weightlifting for almost everyday of the week, so it helps to be able to not change into different clothes all the time.

Coffee_JeremyNguyen_09032017

Being a barista: I have been coffee for almost 5 years now. My skills have dramatically improved along with my communication.

Editing_JeremyNguyen_09032017

The start of my career: I have been working at a studio for a few months. This is one of the videos I have been working on.

Beef_JeremyNguyen_09032017

A carnivorous at heart: I love eating beef. One of my life goals is to eat A grade akita beef in Japan.

Capturing moments: Along side with editing videos, I also take photos on set for promos on social media. I am starting to take more portrait photos of my friends to expand my skills.

Lecture 1, Week 1 Reading: The Generational Shift in Cognitive Thinking

If you asked me “when was the last time you sat down and just focused on one thing”, that would be challenging for me. Our generation has been more privileged than anything before. Everything is easily accessible, and we have so many different options and opportunities ahead of us. We are constantly stimulated, both in the virtual and reality. Stimuli come from big advertisements on billboards down to the multiple notifications on our phones from different social media. Technology is growing at an exponential rate, which has caused a “generational shift” in the way we think and learn. The reading in our first Media 1 Lectorial, ‘Hyper and Deep Attention: The generational Divide in Cognitive Modes’, goes into great detail about the contrast in the learning styles of the previous generations and today’s generation. The writer, Katherine Hayley, touches on many ideas that indicate that I am much more of hyper active learner than disciplined into a deep thinker.

Hayley’s reading considers deep thinking as a luxury that has been developed over time. It has been more apparent in the learning norm for generations prior to mine. This style of learning has definitely overlapped into my early days of being a student. The reading mentions that stimuli such as maths problems require deep attention. This idea is very reminiscent of my days of studying in high school and primary school. The teacher would briefly discuss the task for the day, and then attention towards the writings to the problems in our text books would take over for the majority of the class in silence. From birth to adolescence, I was told to practice a deep style of thinking. However, with the advancement of technology, hyperactive style of thinking became more apparent in the later stages of my life.
