I have recently had first hand experience sourcing audio for the short film Mel and Rana. I recently because a finalist in the HP ‘Bend The Rules’ short film pitching competition and received a new HP x360 Spectre laptop and $3,000. After winning I was required to make the short film in just over two weeks. This involved organising the production and post-production. As time was not on my side, I tried to get as much help as possible!
My partner Amitoze and I organised the sound design and in a limited time we put it all together. Amitoze organized the use of a traditional bhangra music track as he has a family friend that wrote the lyrics to Taur. This music track was used throughout the short film to create an Indian party feel.
We also organised ambient music tracks to overlay the scenes, after we cleaned the dialogue. We sourced the ambiance tracks from freesound.org, a great resource for filmmakers.
I learned so much from the experience of making the film, as we were very short on time and had to solve unique problems that arose during the production. We were incredibly lucky that the cast and crew came on board on such short notice. You can view the film below:
