We have come up with a situation that our characters can be involved in. The common link between them all is a Philosophy class that they all attend. We then discussed the possibility of an event that builds up to a student union party or some function where they all gather. The punch at the party then gets spiked and these characters are blamed and all parties will then await punishment the day after. There could have been a fire or significant property damage such as sprinklers being activated and causing damage.
Plot points
- Punch is spiked with acid (everyone has a different motivation)
- Chastity: Bought a love potion (acid) off Ted to get with Max
- Vincent: Puts absinthe in the punch (the real stuff) to get with Chastity/ Vincent smokes and thinks that he set off the smoke alarm
- Jack saw Chastity put something in the punch and covers for her
- Max: on the committee in charge of drinks (the punch – only something slightly alcoholic/ 3.0% alcohol)
- Ted: Brought in because he is a drug dealer/ Ted is smoking in the toilet and sets of the smoke alarm
- Everyone at the party has been spiked and Ted smokes in the loo/ Vincent is also smoking (both set off the smoke alarm)
The plot points were devised after several brainstorming sessions. The situation was developed because we wanted to find a common link between all of the characters. It would be hard to find a situation where all of these characters would be found together. We decided on a shared elective class that they were all enrolled in. Philosophy was decided because it seems to be an easy subject for our characters. We devised the idea of a dance as an event where all of the characters interact together and depending on the genres that we decide on we will focus on the events that happen on the night (shown above) and the repercussions where each character is interviewed by the university on what actually happened that night. This give us enough options for focusing on developing generic conventions and applying them to these sets of circumstances.
This process has been useful because we have developed a story that suits and character archetypes and I will be sure to explore these ideas in the coming weeks and perhaps later in my career.
