I have been thinking about what was said in the lectorial this week about marriage as a social institution. It is interesting that there are so many traditions and ideologies associated with marriage and it is interesting to consider that these traditions are still valued and carried out today. It was a tradition to duel your rival in the 19th and early 20th century however you don’t see people practicing this (as often) in the modern age. However some traditions such as marriage thrive. Why is this? I aim to investigate this further.
