Project brief two. A tough challenge, however a great reflective exercise to search and expose on our self-identity. I was really put to the test, with a slow computer and new knowledge on the program. However, as the learning process got familiar, I was able to try my best in create something that reflects who I am. My video underlies the factors of my basic life, what I love. As i was brainstorming ideas, i began to question myself, asking myself what are the most important things in my life?

I decided to evoke my text through letters, stating ‘Hi I am Jasmine’, a basic yet integral saying. It is the first line a person uses to express themselves to new people. It is the first impression, and yet makes a great difference to who I am, meeting new friends as they eventually are the people who contribute to a life of new perspectives. Those whom I have become friends with have made a great deal on who I am.

The idea of the sound of boom gates and train horn, I wanted to present an alarming representation in life. Constantly I am aware of my surroundings, both looking at the positive and negatives of society, through the usual sightings, and things that become new to me. The sound is at a fast rate as I actually dont know where the years have gone from this point back, and thus is a symbol of my fast-paced experiences. The representation of the boom gate motif, opening and closing depicts a gateway to life, and new experiences. By making an effort to expand creativity and self-identity, I always seem to reach a high level of happiness, avoiding the downfalls, as I wait for experiences to travel past – so I can continue walking – and make new and diverse life choices.

All chosen photos represent the little things that I love, which impact my day-to day life significantly, and I personally thought including them was detrimental to who I am.
Most of the video extracts were inspired from PB1.

  • Melbourne city- My hometown, where i have my whole live living my childhood and teen years. Its beautiful nature always tends to impress me, and i am extremley proud to call it home.
  • Baking- One of my favourite things to do when at home, learning from my grandmother, i have continued the traditions of baking delicious desserts,  baking with meaning and pleasure by feeling warm hearted at the same time .
  • Religion- Judaism is a important aspect to who i am. Being educated at a Jewish school, and living in a Jewish home, i constantly strive to make an effort and stay in touch with the religion through the community.
  • Friends- My go-to people for advice, laughs and a good time. They are an integral part of why i am me
  • Technology- I spend most days on my computer, doing something creative or spending hours on top of hours on social media.

As i am no musician. And therefore used an up beat and enjoyable song; which was ultimately hard to find due to copy right issues. However, i am happy with the choice in song as when listening, its energetic and playful tones plays a humourous and playful rhythym to my identity.

Ending the video, i reversed the text stating: JASMINE- AM – I.

I am always questioning my identity, challenging myself in new ways, and i personally think the more you question yourself for the things you do in life, the more likely to see the positive aspects that make you happy. Overall, this assignment was a test in my creative skills, and i felt like i lacked in certain areas of editing which i would like to improve on overall. However, as it is all a learning process, i am happy with what i achieved in a short period of time and am certain i will improve next time.
