As i woke up this morning, i found out that the workshop was cancelled. At first i was a little annoyed, to be so behind since there was no lectorial on Monday. However, i tried my best to be productive from home, i decided to have a quick look over the Radio Lab audio essay about ‘ Sleep ‘.

I personally struggled to keep myself engaged with the audio, my brain likes to usually connect with visual images, rather than through sound. However, when listening to the essay, it was definitely a different experience to an alternative podcast. It got me thinking about the creative side, and ways an individual can actually make it sound appealing and interesting.

These are the things I wrote down that I personally thought were engaging

  1. Sound effects (visualization, prove a point,
  2. Interview (Energy through conversation- overlapping of voices, laughter)
  3. Music (Change in time, makes things more intense/ interesting)
  4. Atmos
  5. Dialogue
  6. Narraration

When listening to this audio, it got me thinking of how this assignment will advantage us for the future. In comparison to the next couple of years, it is a small exercise and lead up of the technical skills we will need to have- to properly produce the medium of audio. Hence, is extremely important to be creative and think of different ways to express ideas through audio.
