Starting off the first workshop last Thursday with tutor Seth Keen began on a stressful and confusing note, walking up many stairs, corridors and lifts due to construction. But we all finally made it for a freezing cold 3-hour class, which was really fun!

We began by introducing ourselves, followed by discussing the importance of blogging, and why documenting a certain process is fundamental in the course. As Seth showed us his blog of various personal projects, it was clear how crucial it is to commit to a blog, as the outcome is worth seeing the final project both professionally and personally. The difference between a blog and website was discussed, where a blog is for those who can write and post anything, having an opportunity to communicate with the readers. Where as a website is a formal way to seek information. We spoke about some of the first bloggers in history Justin Hall for example who was one of the first Internet bloggers. Back in time, blogging was not a norm in society, and bloggers would put in a heap of effort to get peoples attention, compared to today’s platforms, where anyone is accessible to blogging.

After the discussion of blogs we were given time to set up our own personal blogs, following the checklist where I personally couldn’t decide which theme I wanted for my blog. Ensuing all checkpoints were completed, we spent the last hour covering the project brief for our creative self-portraits due next Thursday. This includes using all forms of media (including image, video, sound and text) to express our creativity and identity to answer the question ‘who am I’.
