Being the first day of uni, I was quite unsure what to expect. The first lectorial began with Talking Heads song “This must be the place’, not taking in any meaning at the time, however it was more of a fun and open environment to what I imagined (which i was relieved by). Now reflecting back on the day, listening to the song together with all new faces of the course I can now fully understand the idea of Brians fabric lamp (which I was so confused about at the time). The idea of home does not “pre-exist” as it is usually referred to a space incomplete with 4 walls and a roof. However, home is no longer a distinctive place for me; as the people I am usually surrounded by are not present. Home is all for building new experiences, creating a space full of desks, chairs, laptops phones and new people that I am going to be spending the next few years with. Now, when feeling alone, I can remember that I am not in it by myself; I am part of a universal experience.
Together with the media cohort, we were told to write down the things we would like to achieve by 2019.
‘DEAR FUTURE SELF’
- Use media to the extent where I can gain industry experience
- To use my blog as a platform of gaining new ideas and creativity
- To be co-operative with other people, which may give me the opportunity to learn new things
- To engage and communicate with people in the industry in order to make available connections
- To expand my creative voice
- Find an area in media that I want to pursue in the future, as I am still unsure
- To gain a hands on experience which may be through an internship
- To understand the massive world of media and to find my niche within it.
- To be more confident
