EAC WEEK 8

Week 8 began with some excitement thanks to having a guest lecturer, Alexandra Heller-Nicholas start her first day of her two week stint with our class. We watched the Australian short film ‘I’m You Dickhead’ which made me laugh out loud and had to take notes and ‘word vomit’ some notes to write a critical reflection on it.

I enjoyed this exercise as we had to write something straight after watching it which I think strengthens my writing. Some of the points I found that stuck with me from Alex’s talk was when she said, “if you have time to think and discuss art, you are privileged. Full stop.” It was also really important to have her list down things to think about when we are critical reviewing. For example, taste, opinion and context, privilege and bias as well as the audience are things you need to constantly be questioning throughout the process.

We passed our work around to read each other’s and it was so interesting to see how my class mates interpreted the same film and what they picked up from it that I didn’t.

Alexia was ill on the Wednesday so we only caught up once this week.
