After reading this week’s reading, “Why Do the Youth Share so Publicly?” by Danah Boyd I decided to review my online media habits.
What are my privacy settings on Facebook? Who can see my photos? Why am I posting that link?
I thought I knew a lot about media but this course is making me critically look and think about my own media usage and the people around me.
Through my investigation I’ve found:
- Anyone can send me friend requests
- Anyone can look me up via my email
- Anyone can look me up via the number I provided.
AND
- Search engines outside of Facebook can link to my profile
BUT
- Only friends can see what I can physically post
By taking this initiative to review my privacy settings I found that I was unaware of what they are.
After watching the BBC documentary, ‘Virtual Revolution’ in the lecture as well, I’ve been questioning the information I give websites and google and who has my personal details…
