Ethics is incredibly important in any form of publishing whether print or online. In regards to online publishing there are a set of rules that you have to comply to. In High School, in grade ten we received our own laptops from the Government, they had strict rules and we had to sign a declaration on online ethics. There was to be no social media or online forums to combat bullying or ‘keyboard warriors’ and also to establish a sense of professionalism even as students. We were taught about our “Digital Footprints” and that once something is online it can never be retracted, yes it may be deleted but there may still be traces. In regards to professional blogs or online publishing it is common sense to not post anything defamatory, any personal information of other people, no sexist, racist or discriminatory posts etc.
