BLOG CASE STUDY: THE MESSY HEADS

I’ve followed “The Messy Heads” for about a year or two now and I believe their blog works really well in cementing a voice and engaging with readers.

Founded by Emma Mercury, a 21 year old from America, the blog accompanies a bi-annual print magazine as well. The magazine and blog focuses on self-love, empowerment, rejecting the archetypical beauty and fashion magazines.

A small team of young women produce the content and they also receive submissions from their readers around the world. Although I don’t know what their online readership statistics are, their Instagram account has 52.3 thousand followers! Social media is definitely a tool they use to direct traffic to the online content.

Visually when you first look at the blog it is very easy to find what you’re looking for with all of the content in chronological order down the middle under the heading “Recent Posts”. The top of the page includes click-down menus to different pages such as “Adventure, How To, Style etc.” and on the right hand side are links to shop their magazine, listen to their podcast, sign up to their email list and widgets to their various social media platforms including, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube.

I chose this blog as an example because 1) I engage with it a lot and 2) They produce a vast range of media content from podcasts, text and videos and it’s a great example to see what our generation is publishing.
