-Reflective portfolio-

These 5 posts were made throughout the semester and I think that they best demonstrate my engagement with the course, and I think they are pretty diverse in content.

i) What you’ve learned?
I have noticed that there was a very heavy influence of collaboration through the duration of Media 1. Not only collaboration, but also independence, and the importance of being able to pick up tasks and being able to adapt to unfamiliar situations. Collaboration is important not only in this course, but in the media industry, because it is very rare to work independently if you work with a production crew, so being able to work with people is very valuable, and this is why we are being exposed to it early in the course.

ii) How you learn?
I’ve always been more of a visual learner, which makes sense considering I did 4 folio subjects for VCE units 3 and 4. I find it difficult to just read a text book and on the first go completely grasp everything, I even find it hard completely concentrate on what I’m reading. With this in mind, the lectures and tutorial classes within this course actually accommodates my way of learning, because there is almost always a visual to represent ideas that are being discussed.

iii) What you found most challenging in the course?
The most challenging thing I have found throughout this course is consistency in motivation. I’ve had times where I am really motivated to do the readings and separate research on topics and writing blog posts, but there have also been times where all those things couldn’t be further down on my list of things I WANT to do. I haven’t found a way around this challenge, but I’m sure I’ll be able to come up with a solution over the course of this degree.

iv) What you discovered about your own creative practice?
I have discovered that although I have technical skill that are relevant to the project briefs we have received, I have a long way to go in the post-production stages in creating a media product. I have always been stronger in creating visual works, rather than written, so I am happy that I have really noticed this, so I now have the opportunity to really focus on improving this.
