Superhero casting boom
So this week has been a pretty intense round of announcements for comic-book films. We have a ton of people being cast or in negotiations to be cast in films for next year and 2015.
So let’s start with Marvel. The have Bradley Cooper lined up to play Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy. Yeah, I don’t really know what that is but I know it does look cool. I saw part of the leaked comic-con trailer and the visual effects are awesome for a films that was only two weeks into filming. So Rocket Raccoon is a talking raccoon with a rocket of some sort. I really like Cooper and I think that he will be awesome as a Raccoon.
Vin Diesel was also cast as Groot, a giant talking tree. I can definately see that tree with Vin Diesel’s voice, but I don’t like the fact that he calls himself Vin Diesel. It’s the worst name I’ve ever heard. It’s worse than Meta World Peace.
So for the Avengers sequel, they are getting Aaron Taylor Johnson to play a guy called Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch. Both of these actors are great newcomers from the stuff I’ve seen them in. I don’t really know the characters they are playing, but I trust Joss Whedon.
Finally on the DC side, Ben Affleck is Batman. Could be good, but initial reaction is meh. Affleck is better behind the camera. I would have gone with an older Batman, and get someone like Josh Brolin to play him, to be a more grizzled version, but whatever. As long as Bryan Cranston is cast as Lex Luthor, I think I will be satisfied.
