My MIFF Experience
So this year is my first year that I’ve gone to the Melbourne International Film Festival.
So far I’ve seen two films, The East and The Best Offer. You can see my thoughts on the East here.
Tonight, I’m seeing Ain’t Them Bodies Saints with Casey Affleck, Rooney Mara and Ben Foster. Its funny because I basically go into these films blind. I don’t know what this film is about except that it has those three actors and it got critical acclaim from Cannes. I like seeing movies this way because then I have no expectation of what the film will be like. I did it for The East and it turned out to be such a refreshing and crispy film. I did the same for The Best Offer and was pleasantly surprised at the level of depth that film had to offer (pun).
I have tickets to see both Fruitvale Station and The Past. Fruitvale won best film at Sundance and The Past got massive acclaim from Cannes, with Berenece Bejo winning Best Actress at the Cannes awards. I’m also planning to see at least one more film.
(I’m not going to review The Best Offer because I feel that it is best watched with no preconceived notion of what the film is about. What I will say is that you should watch it.)
