The last two short video pieces done in class were actually pretty good preparation for the final assignments in that they gave a sense of what the group dynamics would be like. The first experiment with the Ginny scene went fairly well in some areas, and fairly badly in others. Something that I thought the group did perfectly was designating and fulfilling roles; everyone knew what was expected of them and there were basically no disagreements. I believe this gave us a good source of preparation for our final works, with organisation and delegation skills important to co-ordinate crew. Despite the glaringly obvious issue with the sound, which ended up far more unintendedly hilarious than we could’ve imagined, I think the final product was pretty decent considering the time constraints. The camera angles were fairly solid and captured a lot of the more important aspects of the scenes, and the acting was strong. It was also directed well, with the entire crew knowing what to do and being organised well. Starting with the negatives, some of our planning and prioritisation could have been improved. The first instance was the film order; since the first and third scenes both took place in the editing suites, it would’ve been logical to shoot everything there first and then progress onto the tech desk, or vice versa. This mainly was an organisational fault, which would have been fixed by reading the script and planning in advance, though this was a minor issue. Another was our technical preparation; as mentioned the audio was an issue, and we finished filming having not realised that no sound had been recorded. This is definitely down to lack of preparation again, skipping over the important steps of sound and camera testing.
