Week 1 – First Lesson

Today marked the first lesson of my studio THINKING IN FRAGMENTS, which i was really excited to start since I’m keen to learn unique screen production forms that only some of the online media population know of. Firstly we got to know each other by going and talking to each person in the room, and asking what was the last screen online media that they watched. I found that a lot of people just said snapchat, instagram, or facebook (the three most used applications of the 21st century). Which highlighted how much everyone stays to the basics, and that if this studio uncovers all of the other diverse mediums and forms of screen media production, we’re all going to benefit from our teacher greatly! Not just for the future, but for technological online advances and shift the generic forms to other forms. At the end of the lesson we were told to go and do some research of a online project like a web series and come back on thursday and talk about it.

My web series that I chose was Double G News Network  GGN, thats on Snoop Dog’s WestFestTV YouTube channel. The charismatic rap legend and avid smoker (a.k.a. anchor Nemo Hoes) lights up YouTube screens as he blazes through interesting conversations, sultry “Stormy Fronts” forecasts hijacked by bikini-clad ladies and high-profile plus-ones. Big Names like Tony Hawk, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Rogen, and lots of rappers from G-Unit (50 Cent’s crew). The reason this web series cannot be on a billboard specifically in Australia is because of the actions that the host does in all of the episodes, smoke marijuana. Since this is illegal in Australia, it would bring forth negative connotations and governments would instantly look to ban it. Therefore the main idea is that censorship really does control what is put on advertising forms other than online screen media.
