My Hat’s Off To You

Despite the gloomy weather during the day, this week’s workshop was filled with colour. And no, I’m not talking about rainbow lights filling the room. I’m talking about the Six Thinking Hats system used to provide feedback. But in our case, we had only used four: yellow (something positive), red (gut reaction), black (discernment) and green (an alternative idea) to share our thoughts on other people’s self-portrait blog posts. We looked at other people’s creations from our first project brief and provided feedback based on the coloured hat we were given.

I particularly liked this exercise as we were given an opportunity to learn more about our peers and to get a chance to see how others produce their work. It also pushed us to be honest with people and develop our abilities to provide constructive feedback. Personally, for someone who’s quite shy in showcasing their work and finds it slightly uncomfortable being put in the spotlight, it was a good exercise to encourage self-confidence and self-belief in the work that I had produced.

During this workshop, we were also given a Haiku exercise (and our second Project Brief) to undertake. We were asked to shoot a couple of 10-15 second videos to use in a ‘Haiku film’ and edit them using Adobe Premiere Pro. I’m quite intrigued as to how this video will turn out considering I filmed random things in and around the building we were in and how I can complement this, or at least try to, with whatever haiku I choose. But I suppose things don’t always have to make sense to be understood. You just hope that it’ll be okay.
