Read It Out Loud

Because who doesn’t love a good table read? And in our case, it was 7 scripts that we had to read through.

It was really good to finally see a completed script, though they may not be completely polished, but complete regardless, and to have 7, each with their own direction, was even better. And hearing the words out loud does make a difference, in that, reading through the scripts before class, you paint a certain picture in your head because it’s just your voice that you’re hearing. But with moe than voice, the picture changes a little bit.

Overall, I thought that all the scripts were pretty good considering they were only the first drafts. And as scripts for the pilot episode, they were all good starting points for a series. From reading all of the scripts, they also gave a clearer vision as to what direction we were potentially going for in terms of story line. There were obviously a couple of scripts that stood out for me more than the rest. And I guess that was down to the production aspect of it seeing as though the Media students are the production team.

From a production perspective, we do need to look at the things we are capable of achieving. So when we split into groups and the writers spread themselves accordingly to even out numbers, it was nice to have them be so open so our suggestions. Hearing what the writers’ thought processes were when writing the scripts also helped clarify any thoughts and/or questions that we had. It was great to hear from the writer itself of a particular script that I preferred the most, that the script was written with the production team in mind and how we were going to make it.
