A new week calls for a new beginning. And for us, that’s finally knowing what exactly it is we’re going to do from here on out and actually starting something. It’s been decided that the Screenwriters will work together on a single serial project and we should have a full script from them (hopefully) by mid semester. And in the meantime, us Media kids will give them a brief and provide prompts/stimuli to help them with their writing.

So for our first exercise, we were split into three groups and each were given a prompt to base a video on that would be presented to the writers. My group was given ‘location’ to inspire the writers with and we had to discuss a number of factors before going out to explore. First being whether to look for public or private spaces, and whether they be interior or exterior. These are some important logistics to consider since we will form the production team and will have to be responsible for location scouting and organising permits if required. Once we decided focus more on interior spaces, with a possible single exterior space, we began to look into what kind of stories could be told in certain spaces, as well as having a colour palette that can affect the mood of the scene.

For conveniency, we decided to film that afternoon due to different timetables and using our phones, since we all have smartphones with decent cameras, to capture footage to collate later. We listed places that have block colour palettes and looked into the new spaces in the buildings under construction at uni. I think by doing this we can see the possibilities of creating a story within logistic limitations as well as having a possible colour palette to reflect certain emotions.
