All Rounder

This week’s lectorial was divided into three parts. We began with a lecture on Analysing Media Texts where we were given an introduction into textual analysis. All this just reminded me of every movie that we watched in my high school Media classes and how we analysed a plethora of scenes that it took me so long until I could bear to watch Mean Girls and The Breakfast Club again, and that it’s still taking me some time before I could watch The Dark Knight or Children Of Men again. But most of all, it reminded me of how I can’t actually look at anything, whether it be films, tv shows, magazines, photographs, whatever it may be, for what it actually is because I’m always analysing the text and the messages that it’s trying (or even, not trying) to convey.

The second part of our lecture was a short video on How To Be A Media Operator, and we were given advice on planning and procedures that we should know and undertake in preparation for our third project brief. Following this was a presentation on tips for interviewing people, that is, again in relation to our third project brief where we have to conduct an interview with our subject. Though I learned a lot from these presentations and highly appreciate the advice that we were given, I just think that it would have been better that we got these ‘pep talks’ earlier instead of when we’re two weeks away from our due date. But obviously I understand that due to scheduling, this was the right time for us to receive it. The thing was I had already filmed all my footage and recorded my interview with my subject (or rather, friend) prior to this lectorial, and it’s been pretty hard to reschedule for reshoots due to our other commitments. However, these presentations are definitely something I’ll remember for future projects.
