A new week calls for a new response from the Screenwriters on the dialogue videos we made in response to the characters that they had written. And what we got back was definitely not the response we were expecting because the questions that the two groups we had to split into as a Media collective were not answered. Honestly, it’s been pretty confusing for me altogether because I feel like I don’t know what it is exactly we’re going for.

In terms of genre and themes, I feel like we’ve been going back and forth with comedy and drama, in that, I’m pretty sure the course guide leaned towards a serial drama, but from the class discussions we had earlier in the semester, we were all leaning towards a comedy. And taking in consideration the prompts and response videos that the Screenwriters and us, Media kids have been making as a way to communicate and collaborate ideas, this week was no exception in adding to my confusion. I mean, from the characters that we got the other week, and quick recap – these characters had such unique qualities, you would think we would be leaning towards a comedy. But from the possible themes and plot lines that we got back, it sounded more dramatic.

They still maintained the ‘new intern at the office’ vibe, and a couple of the characters they had written also stayed. And the character they had chosen to be the lead was one that contrasted these other uniquely orchestrated characters. I guess what I would really like to know, considering we’re almost at the halfway mark of the semester and we still haven’t made anything, let alone reach pre-production, is what direction are we going in and quoting someone in class today, ‘if this was on Netflix, what category would it fall under?’
