How To Survive Uni

Or rather, how we are surviving at RMIT.

Our exercise for this week’s workshop was to conduct interviews using a Sony MC50 video camera.

In terms of any problems we had, I don’t think that we had any major problems during filming, other than finding a really quiet place to film. We did find a relatively quiet place just outside building 9 under some stairs, however, I think there was an air conditioner system of some sort so you can very much hear some fan noise in the background which I found hard to reduce during editing without completely distorting the audio. And of course, because we filmed all interview questions and answers outside, there were other background noises, such as other people talking and cars driving past.

I think that one of our most successful shots would have to be when we filmed at RMIT Connect and it begins with a close-up shot of their sign before simultaneously zooming out and panning down to our subject walking around the area because it shows where the person is at and their interactions in their given environment. In terms of editing, I guess it was pretty easy since we sort of had a game plan ready before we started filming just to help us out when it comes to editing. For instance, we just had the camera rolling when the interviewer was asking questions so it’s easier to review and cut what we needed since it’s in one video. I also realised that we had used similar frame structures, as in, each of us were centrally positioned in the frame when we were all individually in front of the camera.

As a footnote, I’m not going to lie, this is a very rushed edit so I apologise for the somewhat sloppy editing on my part. But in spite of that, happy viewing.
