Room With A View: Soft Show April 16th

For the soft show, I handled the producing. This included picking the music, keeping track of time, pitching ideas, staying in contact with each member of the group to make sure we were on the same page, and as it turned out washing dishes.

Picking Music

I tried to include the other members of the group in the selection process but as time was ticking on to turn in the run-sheet I made an executive decision to put in what I wanted and make it as cohesive a show as possible. I also did my best to include Australian artists as per RRR’s guidelines.  I chose:

Flowers  // Sampa The Great

LSD // Jamilla Woods ft Chance The Rapper

Forever // Noname

Misrepresented // 30/70

4 Us // Otis Junior

Ball and Chain // Billy Davis (though this later got replaced as Taylor had a song he very much wanted to play and fit the time requirements better )

Thankfully, the first thing Elizabeth said after the show was that the music was excellently picked – which fed my ego in the best way.

TIME

Time was certainly the biggest factor in the producing process for me keeping track of when the guests were arriving making sure they were comfortable in the green room before we were ready for them, and making sure the presenters and panel operator were aware of how we were going on time after each segment. I felt that this duty was carried out very well by me.

Where I could have done Better

The biggest issue we had with our show was ticking the boxes of stuff we needed to get out there. there were a couple of times where announcing of songs and then back announcing was skipped and letting our audiences be able to catch up mid-interview. At one moment I did try to remind the presenters on air to announce the song by holding up the sign but this ultimately failed. the information was on the run-sheet as well but more than likely got forgotten due to nerves.

I also was the one who pitched the ethics interview which definitely could have gone better. the talent had a lot of opinions on the topic which was great but was certainly difficult to reign in. I do feel that part of the issue with this interview was talent as well as the fact that neither of the presenters had pitched it and therefore were probably less informed in how it could be structured though I did put together a prep sheet for them. In the future, I think it will be important to discuss with presenters more about topics they are more educated on so the interviews can be as successful as possible.
