Serendipity + The Audio Essay

I have a habit of falling asleep listening to podcasts. And occasionally I’ll wake up listening to a podcast as well. This happened to me this morning. I fell asleep listening to the most recent episode of #Millenial (the hashtag is silent). I then woke up to an episode from a few weeks ago. I woke up to a conversation between the hosts about News readership on facebook and the reliability of it – which is exactly what is discussed in our Audio Essay. I took this as true fate. Louise gave us the suggestion a few weeks ago to look for podcasts that have discussed the topic for us to rip from – so there would be a bit less work for us. I, unfortunately, was having trouble finding anything that would work within our conversation until now!

The conversation on Millenial revolved around the recent news that facebooks “trending” section may be biased against ‘conservative’ opinions. As well as how websites like The Daily Dot produce articles to get people riled up enough to then share them via facebook and twitter or what I generally call ‘click bait’.

You can take a listen to the episode HERE the conversation on this topic starts at the 25 mark.

The episode also refers to a piece on John Oliver that I was not able to fit into the audio essay. In the piece, John Oliver discusses the validity of scientific surveys that get spread via Social Media.
