PB2: Media Self Portrait

For this self-portrait, I decided to veer away from the artefacts I used previously in PB1. I chose not to use them as I feel like they would not have been able to form a cohesive concept. I also felt that the artefacts did not say anything about me that could not be said about anyone else. I wanted to take this assignment as a chance to explore with a fun concept and give the audience a peek inside my mind.

I am someone who is known for being a sleep talker. Having lived in many hostels there are many witnesses to my sleep conversations/ramblings. My concept for this project was to show me in my sleep and all the things that go through my head; pop culture, the human need to eat, doubts of friendship, and fears (those escalators at parliament are SCARY!).  I also wanted the piece to reflect my humour and my nature. I feel like I was able to accomplish that through the commentary in the piece.

I am all in all pretty happy with this work. I am still new to Premiere and working through the kinks. I redid parts of this project a few times to make it work just how I wanted. In the end, I tried to stick with my simpler idea. When using so many mediums in only a minute – less is more.

What I think works the best/worst in this project is the beginning with the dry erase board. The speed of the video/drawing combined with the beat of the music and my commentary – I feel, are perfectly paced. Especially when compared to the rest of the piece. Which, to me, feels a bit choppy and too fast.
