Young Scrappy Hungry
I will be using this blog during the time of my Networked Media class as well as throughout my media course this semester. As I previously stated in my introduction post I will be using this blog to reflect on my classes but I will also be using the blog to share my opinions on how politics, culture, and media all play into each other and what each of them together says about the world we live in.
I have to decided to title my blog Young, Scrappy, And Hungry. YoungScrappyHungry happens to also be my Instagram handle. By naming my blog the same thing it creates continuity of my online persona – which we spoke about today in my second Networked Media lecture. More importantly though “Young, Scrappy, and Hungry” comes from a lyric of my favorite musical Hamilton by Lin-Manuel Miranda .
Hey yo, I’m just like my country
I’m young, scrappy and hungry
And I’m not throwing away my shot!
I’m ‘a get a scholarship to King’s College
I prob’ly shouldn’t brag, but dag, I amaze and astonish
The problem is I got a lot of brains but no polish

Hamilton is a hip hop based musical that tells the story of Alexander Hamilton one of the founding fathers of the United States of America. Alexander Hamilton started from the bottom and rose to the top. I hope to do the same – maybe not with the same sense of confidence Hamilton expresses in the lyrics above nor do I assume I will succeed to the amount he or rapper and Degrassi star, Drake has.. But I will compare myself to Hamilton in the sense that one, I am young, I have the world in front of me and the privilege of every opportunity at my feet. Two, I am scrappy, I find myself to be incredibly resourceful. Finally, I am Hungry. I am hungry for challenge. I am hungry for knowledge and to learn. I am hungry for the tasks being a student again will bring me.
