Lately I watched an attractive film called “contracted”. It’s a story telling a girl suffering in the transition of turning to a zombie, which is unique for me as the way of shooting is totally fresh for zombie type. It is quite interesting for me to have some reflections on this film from two aspects.

Firstly, it is all the way different from the traditional type of zombie movies which stuff up audience with blood scenes all along the show. It has bloody scenes though, however it gives good reason to every scene that may scare the audience. By closely follow the story as the movie goes, we can sense the feeling of scary toward the girl. It is not only the feeling of fear but also the feeling of being isolated by her friends and family. Nevertheless, the girl got the zombie disease for having unprotected sex. It alarms the audience who watch it to be careful about their own body, although I have never thought that I could learn a thing from such in the aspect of sexuality.

Secondly, the way of film shooting is quite special. This movie records the last few days of the girl as the time line who was about to become the “thing” eventually, which allows audiences to have a close look on the zombie transition. Frankly speaking, I have always believed that the angle you select to look at a thing determines a lot. We all are bored of scenes such as zombies filled with the street and getting killed massively by survivors who become heroes in its happy ending. Audience now want to seek real things that come with logic, such as where did the zombies come up originally or how did human become Zombie? The “seconds turning” is no longer attractive to many people. People now want to pay to see things they have not been in touch with before.

This movie is very special, which inspires me to think of telling a story from a different and new perspective.
