In this week’s practical class, we shared our own materials that we collected for our project brief 1.

Students presented their project in a group. First of all, we showed our images, audios, videos and text to other students in the same table. Then, everyone would get feedback from other students. Dan gave us guidance to how to give feedback, he used different colours to represent different aspects:

Yellow – positive, optimistic. something that works well.

Red – initial feeling/ gut reaction.

Black – something that doesn’t work.

Green – alterative/ creative ideas sparked by the work.

Dyy, Fab and I are in one group, we all showed our materials and got feedback from others. I found that my images are quite different from theirs. The pictures I chose to introduce myself were realistic and normal. They are all about my daily life. But I noticed that some of Fab’s photos are abstract, which I liked pretty much. In addition, one of Dyy’s pictures is about coffee, which it’s quite impressive. Through this picture, I knew that she loves coffee.

After this miniature presentation, we knew each other gradually. I could remember their hobbies and dreams or something like that, and I also learnt that different materials could convey different information. I should try to think from different perspectives and use different kind of materials to express what I want to say. I think this is an important part of media study.

In the second half of the class, Dan introduced the second project brief to us—a 1 minute video with editing. This one would be much difficult than the first one. I was worried about it at first, because I knew nothing about editing. I thought this was a big challenge, and I should face it. It could be exciting to begin an editing journey.
