Learning 101

I’ve learnt countless things this Semester in Ecologies of Noticing. I cannot exactly list out everything that I’ve learnt because some things are very hard to explain, and some things I’m not actually sure that I have learnt. Learning theory and applying theory are very different things. I’ve been learning theory for years and years, yet I’ve used very little of it.

One thing I certainly have learnt is that I almost always need to apply theory in order to fully learn/understand it. I do not have to use a theory over and over, once should suffice. For example, when reading Bogost’s Alien Phenomenology it took me a while to understand what I was reading, but I didn’t realise exactly how much I had overlooked the theory until I applied it to actual objects in my life and their relationality to not only me but to everything.
