My way of working

Over the first three weeks of this semester, I have already noticed significant improvements in my editing, organisation and filmmaking skills. Learning all of the keyboard shortcuts and proper ways to organise files on Premiere Pro has definitely made the editing process much more straightforward and simple. Prior to this class, I had struggled the most with understanding how to change the aspect ratio of a sequence and had a very unsystematic and messy style of working. However, after working through the Lenny edit exercise, I followed a more professional and systemic approach to editing that was guided by Paul, and I am very happy with the outcome of my work and organisational skills so far.

In addition to this, another notable change that has occurred throughout my practice is the ability to become more deliberate with my filmmaking skills. The class projects have allowed me to slow down and approach each different facet of film production more carefully and in more detail. I am also very pleased to have chosen Deliberate Film at this time of the semester as it is something I definitely needed. My previous classes were very much focused on shooting for coverage and my creativeness was at a halt. However, I now find myself being more deliberate and experimental with my filmmaking and shot construction. In particular, it now feels natural to create multiple versions of a scene to produce something that is more meaningful and intentional.

Furthermore, collaborating online and completing group tasks is also something that I have come to enjoy more. I initially thought completing these weekly exercises online in groups would be very hard in trying to communicate all of our ideas together. However, I have come to really enjoy working in groups online and I feel much more confident in how online learning can be just as productive as face-to-face learning. Overall, the deliberate film studio has already improved both of my filmmaking and editing abilities, and I am very eager to keep improving on them and learn more throughout the semester.
